Be the change you want to see in the world, that’s what mom always used to say. So here’s a list of all the Local communities from the top 13 Lemmy instances by user count as per https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list
For now its just a copy+paste from the communities listing page of each instance https://lemmy.ca/communities/listing_type/Local/page/1 … I think today’s programming challenge might be a script to scrape that and in the future we’ll poke at Lemmy’s API to see if we can’t snarf a community list automagically. (if you have any ideas let me know)
edit: changed from dropbox to google drive. Let me know if there are viewing problems - other than having to go to (ugh) google drive.
edit2: permissions, ugh. Should be universally accessible now.
It says access denied when I try to access it, would it be possible to paste the list to pastebin or something similar?
oh my godness Im so embarrassed. Try now.
It works now! I’ve pasted it to Privatebin for anyone who wishes to avoid Google services :)
awesome, thanks!
I’m assuming this list is ballooning in the last few days. Do you have any revision history? Maybe number of communities over time?
I’m sure it is. I spent my Sunday working on a script to scrape the community directories directly from an instance’s community listing but got bogged down in HTML parsing regex hell. If I don’t make progress by Saturday Ill manually compile another list. Best I can do atm.
Well - just saw THIS https://lemmyverse.net/communities drop (and stickied) it. wow.
Yeah, that’s very cool. I like that they link to the community directly on each instance, but also give you a fast copy/paste option to copy !community@server.tld so you can find it on your own instance quickly.
