The openSUSE Community is pleased to announce a logo competition for a new openSUSE logo as well as four openSUSE distributions; Tumbleweed, Leap, Slowroll a...
As much as I love OpenSUSE—I use Tumbleweed myself—this effort is completely undermined by the requirement that the new logos must “integrate well” with the ones for Aeon and the Micro distros. Each of those three logos is in contention to be the worst logo in the Linux world, and I don’t think it’s controversial to state that that’s a pretty amazing achievement given that the standard was set thirty years ago by the most helpless drawing of a penguin known to man. They need a complete, professional rework of their branding.
I love Tux, but I wish Linux as a whole would have a logo. Like, you have Windows and Apple logo that represent the OSes in a simple way, it works even if the logo is small. Linux doesn’t have that, so when someone needs a logo they just use the logo of a Linux distro instead, or they show multiple distros, or more likely, they will visually represent some distros, but not all distros they support.
I dare because I’m not twelve years old and don’t see my operating system as a part of my identity that I must shield from any and all criticism to protect my fragile little neckbeard ego.
Damn it. I can’t upvote and down vote at the same time. Firstly, yes I agree that a total rebranding is needed, as the logos for MicroOS, Kalpa, etc are well… Uninspired. Secondly, leave the penguin alone man.

The penguin is great, because it’s absolutely unprofessional. I’d rather Linux be a fun community get-together than a sterile corporate brand.

Tux is the universal logo
Doesn’t really fit that well in small areas, and it sorta works in black and white, but not really.

It was a joke. Are you okay?
Jeez, my guy is livid about the penguin

Seems like SUSE confused “symbolic icon” with “logo”. I hope the community can mend this confusion with good logos.
