What other Nintendo games do you add gender to your character? I’ve never played animal crossing but every Nintendo game I’ve played other than Pokemon has a known protagonist. The screenshot you used is another pokemon game.
Hello, game designer here. We don’t worry a lot about pc gender as it is mechanically agnostic, and as a feature it has a minimal effort involved with such a design decision. We do however consider who we offend at every stage of the development, and who we appeal to at every turn. The insane plethora of game enjoyers being incredibly different in tastes, styles and ability takes up most of the work of being a designer
Inclusitvity is being able to play as either gender. Being able to switch mid-game is just a niche convenience thing. Personally I haven’t ever felt the need to switch during a playthrough, if the game is good, I wouldn’t mind starting a new one, but obviously there’s nothing wrong with having the option.
Why does this matter?
I like to change my appearance mid game
Sure, it’s a cool feature to have. Just like why does it matter.
I would also like to mention it is a Nintendo thing, not a pokemon thing.

Splaatoon animal crossing
Their point with the screenshot is that you can change your gender at will in at least one Pokémon game.
Oh that makes sense. Thank you
why does inclusivity matter?
Your game is only inclusive if you can change genders mid game???
Fuck me if I were a game designer and had to consider every audience who might be offended by any design decision.
Insert meme “chess is ablist because it requires too much concentration.”

Honestly, it’s always better to just have customizable characters as a default if it’s possible specifically for this reason.
Saints Row 2, The Third, IV go brrrrr!

The inclusivity of *checks notes* swapping your ingame model for literally no benefit
Tfw face when you’re in 196 taking a pokeminecraft meme seriously
It doesn’t. People just enjoy nitpicking it seems.
