I’m not disputing that. But what makes it remarkable? It was a popular car in the 70s and 80s. Not every police car has to be an interceptor (very few do, actually).
Believe it or not, just because something was popular in Brazil and Germany doesn’t mean it was popular the world over.
Also, believe it or not, this community is for talking about something you just learned today. The clue is in the name of the community. I just learned this, so…
Also, Brazil doesn’t even come up on the first page if I search for ‘VW beetle police car.’ Just Germany. Maybe it’s not as globally super common as you think?
Whoa, sorry if came up as disapproving, that was not my intent. I was genuinely curious as to what caught your attention about it. I talked about interceptors because they’re the exception where I’m from, but perhaps the police organizes itself in a radically different way near you, and that would be something interesting for me to learn.
Brazil was the last place on Earth to stop producing the Beetle, which was called Fusca there. Here you can see several Beetle police cars, in the different colors for each state police forces in Brazil.
From what I remember from old movies, the Beetle was quite popular in the US too in its day. So this popularity in a country in Europe, one in North America and one in South America, did lead me to believe it was popular in a good chunk of the world. In fact, the list of factories is impressive, but that doesn’t really tell us anything about popularity.
Anyway, sorry again for annoying you. I should have been more clear about my intentions. Have a great day.
