That’s what a lot of people say until they’re in need of some police action then it’s all about “why aren’t the police doing their jobs!?”
For the record I’m 100% against illegal searches. Court orders should be required to look at personal devices.
That said, I volunteer with cops in Canada and find them to be very professional. Saw a female officer working with a non-white individual high on drugs at a hospital and she kept the person calm and relaxed by reading a book to them as you would a child. Totally worked.
To be fair, the big reason for being against the cops is qualified immunity. Even though not many cases require qualified immunity, the fact that it exists at all is a serious problem. If the police do something wrong, they should be able to be sued in court and let a jury hear both sides of the argument. I don’t think all individuals who are police are bad people, but they work for the government have no duty to serve and enforce laws passed down by goons.
Yes totally agree about that. I don’t believe the police in Canada have qualified immunity however it is more difficult to get a conviction against them.
I heard a libertarian viewpoint that seems to make sense to me, and that’s that the police would be required to carry liability insurance. So if they were horrible fucking people, then they would get quickly priced out of the market with their insurance rates and have to find another job of where they weren’t hurting people.
Dude, you need to see how nasty the justice system in the US really is. They’re not your protectors and they’re literally not required by law to be so. Supreme Court decided that decades ago.

Life isnt a Hollywood movie. The police don’t show up at the penultimate moment during the commission of a crime and save the day.
The police don’t even prevent crime. They show up after a crime has been committed.
Their main benefit is after that crime has occurred when they write the report for your insurance claim.
They actually do. I work with them and I’ve seen it on multiple occasions here (not the US). Maybe you should try it.

But I’m not talking about the US. Did you miss that?
The court doesn’t make decisions any better than police.
