Personally I think not having karma limits is nice currently! I understand why they were used but grinding karma as a lurker on reddit was frustrating.

The whole point of Lemmy is that anyone can start an independent instance. Yes someone might start a the_donald instance and there is no central authority to shut them down. However instances such as, for example, lemmy.ml or beehaw.org can choose to defederate with the problematic instance so you will never see content from them. That’s why it’s important to choose an instance that will align with your values. You are basically choosing who is going to moderate the content you see. Just make sure you belong to an instance that values what you want.
