Same with plastic companies trying to encourage plastic recycling, they’re only doing it because the real solution is to ban or regulate their business.

That’s good, I’ve usually found the flat ones made with sheet metal are weaker and more bendable than ones made from steel wire, or just using the small sized paper clips. Which is problematic because I like to keep them in my bag in case I need to use them and if they end up bent up it’s not great.
I think the reason the ones I’ve gotten fared so poorly is because they’re aluminium as opposed to steel like the paper clips. Which always fair better in my bag than the flat stamped ones do.
Paper clip is better, these things are very flimsy, but also phones and Tablets don’t always come with them.
Scissors also work as well if you’re really hellbent on separating them. And if the EU decides to ban Scissors you can use a Knife or glass.
I believe that tactic is called sealioning. It’s very common on Twitter actually.
or tell someone who can
That’s literally exactly what they meant by:
“Users are allowed to point out issues without working on fix themselves.”
That only exports settings and subscriptions, I think what they’re talking about is a solution that allows you to migrate everything including your ownership of the posts and comments that you made.
It’s definitely better than nothing but it’s probably not what they are looking for, hopefully we’ll get a true account migration system soon.
I thought gab pulled the plug on federation because their goal wasn’t to be federated in the first place, it was just a force themselves on others and be accessible from the Play store.
Also I wonder if conservatives would be put off lemmy given the political stance of its creators - even though that shouldn’t matter being free and open and not controlled by any one person, you know how people are.
I’ve already seen it happening with people on Reddit (they don’t seem particularly conservative either) claiming that lemmy is “built and run by Tankies”. Many of these people though are/were also scabs so take that as you will.
I’m just going to say try making an account on the unilem.org instance, from there you’ll be able to access all instances from the fediverse.
It’s about as politically balanced as they get since they almost never defederate, it doesn’t have very many communities though so you’ll have to find those on other instances, by the way if a community from another instance doesn’t appear in the one that you’re in, go to the search bar in the communities tab and type ![community name]@[instance domain]
and assuming that you typed it correctly it’ll usually sync it and then you can subscribe to it.
Since unilem hasn’t defederated any of the big instances you’ll very likely have access to all communities on Lemmy.
I’ve heard that it’s considered click fraud and that the advertisers sometimes Force the site to pay them back possibly a little bit extra as a fine.
Not too sure though. Personally I don’t really use it because the adblocking structure I have set up isn’t really compatible because it has multiple layers. I block the ads over the network through a network-wide firewall, I also block them through portmaster on my computer, and finally I have uBlock Origin in my browser. I also have adnauseam alongside of it and I turn off ublock origin for the sites that I want to autoclick ads on but almost none make it through the multilevel network filtering.
More specifically I would recommend adnauseam since it’s extra punishing to aggressive advertisers by clicking the ads automatically.
Another idea is that somebody found an exploit in the software and figured out how to use it for much more then interfacing with vending machines. So in essence the Borg is one giant botnet accept instead of ddosing or doing database leaching they assimilate people and make them part of the botnet.
Not your brain but rather a tiny little chip inside your brain, still would be a rather difficult task (that’s an understatement) to unbrick or replace it though. Unless they put a debug Port accessible from the outside you would need surgery if you needed to JTAG to unbrick it (probably would need it anyway since if they go this route they probably won’t let you access the pins you need to from the outside).
Where does Element/Matrix fit in here? It doesn’t really seem like Paranoid like XMPP since people have been using it pretty regularly now, not just paranoid people.
People have been asking me to join twitter for a while, back when twitter was a big thing. Most people back then did have twitter and did sign up and at least tweeted something before. People always thought it was strange that I’m not on there, I just didn’t really want to be there because it seemed really toxic there from what I’ve seen people say online and the screenshots that have been re-posted.
I would definitely recommend Mastodon though, it seems really cool from being there, not like the twitter I’ve heard about at all.
How do you know those cables don’t have the retaining clips removed to make them easier to pull out? If that’s the case all you need to do is pull them.
Good news is that here they stand a much better chance of being moderated by competent admins, whereas Reddit admins moderate to save face of their website, not because they actually care about the rules or people getting hurt. Most of the assholes I knew of at the beginning of joining Lemmy aren’t here anymore, they were banned, either on their home servers or by a good amount of the others.
