I know. r/unpopularopinion’s top posts were always popular opinions. I’d call it ironic except that it’s completely expected.
I lived in Colorado for a few years in the mid 90s and I remember seeing a bumper sticker that said in big letters “GO BACK TO CALIFORNIA”and in smaller letters below it said “and take a Texan with you.” Always thought that was funny despite the explicit nativism. And they were mad for the reason you described: they didn’t like Californians driving up real estate prices (and Texans were also doing it to a lesser extent). I can understand where the resentment comes from, but I’m not fond of the hostility towards outsiders.
Yeah it’s a Lars von Trier film, which are often polarizing. I didn’t like Breaking the Waves but I did like Melancholia, so go figure.
