Edit: Here are the problems with you “Wayland isn’t good enough” people.

First, you don’t use Wayland, so you don’t even know if it’s fixed whatever weird issue you encountered with it before or if it supports a niche use case, for example.

Second, Wayland won’t get good enough for you until you start using it and reporting bugs. You think X11 was a bed of roses when it first started? Or do you think they bumped the version number 11 times for fun?

If you’re using Wayland, you can go to Settings -> Colors & Themes -> Login Screen (SDDM) and click “Apply Plasma Settings…”

If you’re using X11, it looks like you’ll have to resort to hacky scripts, unfortunately.

In addition to what’s been mentioned, Bazzite also updates the kernel and graphics drivers more often than SteamOS, so yes, while things are slightly more likely to break every now and then, there are some decent performance gains to be had.

I love Bazzite, but I wish they would fix the no audio after wake on the OLED. I encountered it often while running the testing release, so I went back to SteamOS to wait for a stable release with the fix. Imagine my disappointment when they released a new stable version with the bug still present. :(

Plex is definitely easier to set up. I’ve done it multiple times over several servers. I’ve literally never heard of the database breaking, and I’ve deleted media that was actively being watched. Meanwhile, Jellyfin fails basic metadata matching on the exact same media set and also lacks built-in SSO. One of the biggest niceties of Plex is inviting people to join and they can just immediately login with Google.

I’m not saying Plex is better, and I’m not defending their recent enshittification. It’s gotten worse, for sure. And I’m sure Jellyfin is great, but I haven’t had time to put the effort in to fix the metadata issues or create accounts so my users can switch over.

It’s unfortunate that Jellyfin is just slightly worse than Plex at pretty much everything. Playback is smooth, sure, but set up is harder, getting good metadata is harder, logging in is harder, etc.

The metadata one really put me off. I set up a Jellyfin instance with the exact same media set as my Plex instance, and it immediately started “recognizing” standard movies and shows as porn and hentai. I’m still going to push through and get it properly set up eventually, but even so, I’m not looking forward to manually managing accounts when people can just SSO with Plex.

Definitely ancient since C# has been cross-platform for 4 years with Dotnet Core. If you include Mono, make that 19 years.

Moral and ethical implications aside, I really want Discord to die specifically for this reason. Discord servers are increasingly becoming home to things that belong on forums and/or wikis, and it’s ridiculously frustrating. Literally 90% of the servers I’m in are designed for support for some piece of software or hardware. Just make a forum, I beg.
