It’s actually wild. The addiction is very real.
Reddit feels like addiction to me, while the fediverse feels exciting and like I’m having real conversations with people.
I have popped on to Reddit a couple of times to help with a couple of subs I’m a part of but god it’s just trash over there to me now…I really don’t want to be there. I deeply resent what they’ve done to it over time.
Yes this is correct!
Oh my god that episode. And then they create the program for the villain to live in indefinitely and all of that, I kind of loved how that storyline played out.
I’m so impressed with how devs and community members across federated content spaces are handling the technological and communications challenges that are arising as many of us are flocking and trying to talk with each other and grow new communities.
This has got to be a really fun but tough time for those behind the scenes—thank you, all of you!!
But I think a piece of this that’s important to remember is the messed up incentives that most platforms have had beginning around the time they took on serious funds from big investors.
From the moment you bring in serious investment dollars from Silicon Valley funds and SV wannabes, your incentive is no longer to build something that seriously delights users just for the sake of delighting users, everything is in service to shareholder value.
Reddit is perhaps the most classic example of our time of a truly wonderful platform being destroyed by shareholder value coming first.
It makes me giddy to think of how fast people are working on readers/apps for Lemmy that will make all of this way easier for more people to adopt.
I’ve been so happy with the tone and discussions here. I am hopeful that as we continue to grow we will see lots of people from Reddit, but that we will all check the reddit culture at the door. It feels really nice here.
It’s been so enjoyable!
I hadn’t thought about or had an account on their shit in sooooo long…years and years…then they got me when I purchased oculus for two of my kids Christmas before last. Making a profile on Facebook depressed me so bad.
If “Meta” made it, I just don’t want it.
I’m pretty sure I’m going to delete my three year and ten year accounts and just walk away for good. Honestly I was a little sad all day today, because I have a few hobbies I’m really crazy about and the cooking, baking, gemstone, and gardening communities have felt like home for a long time…but just using lemmy for a tiny little bit, I’m actually really excited! I’m having a much simpler experience here that’s refreshing. I like the content I’m reading.
Looks like it is compromised once again? It was fine for me and just a minute ago went back to “Israel” and porn.
