  • Out of the 2D metroids, I think Super Metroid still takes the cake. Dread and 2r are still pretty good but there is a reason why super metroid game design gets taught in college game design courses. One of the best games of all time probably, still trades blows even with good modern metroidvanias. I played it for the first on in the Wii back when I was in high school so this isn’t even nostalgia talking, I even played it after the Prime games.

For the 3d ones, both Prime and Prime 2 are classics imo. Just the sheer immersion is something you don’t find too often in video games. Prime 2 gets a lot of flak for the ammo system and dark world constant damage, but I think those were useful improvements to balance the game since Prime 1 is quite an easy game. They do add a decent amount of friction to traversing the world and makes the dark world feel actually dangerous to be in. Prime 3 was a bit more forgettable but still not a bad game.

  • Eh, this doesn’t sound anywhere near as impressive as what Valve did for Proton itself. First of all, Proton is actually good to the point where native linux ports aren’t even needed (although appreciated), its not just for dev prototyping.

And as the top post said, Apple’s fork of CrossOver is not public. Pretty expected from Apple by this point.

  • Gyro on steam deck isn’t really something you want to rely upon as much as gyro on a controller. Since you are physically moving the device it will move the screen which can mess you up. Have some kind of toggle for the gyro if you want, but you kind of just have to get used to the trackpad for aiming.

It has been good for me for aiming in tears of the kingdom but unlike and FPS it basically only activates when you actually need it, when you pull out your bow. In FPS games you are constantly moving your camera around so gyro gets annoying.

Basically for third person action games gyro = good but FPS games it is not as good.

  • I watched MrLlama’s (popular d2 speedrunner) videos about d4 and decided I will most likely hold out for a sale or deep deep sale before I get the game. From the sounds of it d2 is still just straight up superior in most categories. Especially with the new remake making it look almost as nice. And since I still have d2r and still haven’t gotten my enigma yet, why not go back into to it?

If anything d4 has made me want to play d2 more lol. I am glad people are enjoying d4 though. Much different song and dance this time around than when d3 released.

My current biggest gripe is that I am fearful Blizzard is somehow going to take a perfectly functional game and somehow ruin it, since it is a live service game after all, and it is Blizzard. Thus the wait for a sale.
