The streamer Atrioc recently made a comment about old videos like this that really makes me think every time I see a throwback like this.
He pointed out how our media consumption has completely changed, and that for many of the most viral videos 10 years ago, people wouldn’t even make it halfway through them if they were posted today.
“Charlie bit my finger” was so popular but if it had been released today would be absolutely ignored. The actual bite doesn’t happen for 20 seconds which is longer than most short form content
I just wish people were less aggressive when arguing on the internet. It just gets so vitriolic and about winning rather than finding the truth
I also hate when people think “downvote = disagree” when that’s really not what we should be using it for. I never down vote in a debate (unless they get rude or offensive) and I always feel bad when someone comes along and down votes the person I’m arguing with! Now they’re going to think it’s me doing it and get angry!
This thread is making me want to try some aftershave
Also how is this being exclusively associated with the US?
I mean I get it, we like guns and this is the US version of Amazon, but it’s not like we have these toys in every household. And it’s not like other countries don’t have guns present in their culture (video games, movies, etc.).
They are most likely produced in China and are definitely going to be uncommon.
It’s like making a post “the US has 80-gallon drums of lube no joke”. It just feels like rage bait with an anti-US agenda
Edit: Got home and did the most rudimentary search on the U.K., France, and Swedish version of Amazon. An identical or closely similar product is available on all of them.
I think AWD is widely unnecessary for most people in most climates. It is just an unnecessary feature to sell you a more expensive car.
I have lived in snowier climates my whole life and have also driven 2WD vehicles the entire time. I have only gotten stuck once, and I know that for a fact because I remember it being surprising that it had never happened before. You really don’t need it if you just drive carefully when conditions are suboptimal.
AWD gives you a false sense of invincibility as well. It’s important to keep in mind that “all wheel drive” does not mean better stopping. If you’re going to stop, more wheels with power doesn’t help. And in terms of dangerous situations, it’s usually the lack of stopping that’s the problem, not the lack of going.
There are also issues with fuel efficiency to consider. AWD vehicles generally get lower fuel efficiency compared to 2WD versions of the same car.
Overall, no, you really shouldn’t get AWD unless you really need the feature.
To be fair, moving to the top allows for much more space for the list of predictions, so there’s at least some benefit to ir
I’m sorry but that’s still the meaning of the term. I know it is colloquially understood to mean a “poor” country, but we shouldn’t ignore the original intent.
Also, please don’t tell me how my country is. I quite literally live here. I can read every article online that you can, plus I can go outside and see it for myself. We know we have problems, we aren’t ignorant to them - at least not all of us - and they’re nowhere near as bad as some commentors on this post believe they are.
It’s a cold war term - basically, first world is the US and capitalist countries, second world is the Soviet and communist countries, and third world are the unaffiliated.
It’s slightly more nuanced than that, but that’s the basic summary.
If it’s broken then why no issue being tracked? Is there any issue tracking at all or is it genuinely all through Discord?
I would really recommend using GitHub’s features whenever possible, especially for important information like the status of the Android build. Very few people are keen to join a Discord group to find the status of your code or instructions
The whole thing looks suspicious to me - there are no images of the game, broken English everywhere, tons of contributors but only one open issue. The repo is just odd in a lot of ways and is sending out bad vibes.
Also, the Android instructions make no sense, since there’s no APK in the releases. Unless they somehow bundle that in the source code or Linux zip.
Didn’t he cheat on his wife and get caught as well?
I have concerns about the success of this platform. I am convinced what makes TikTok great isn’t necessarily the algorithm (its good, no doubt) but the volume of content. There are so many users producing content that the amount of content you find enjoyable is always more than you could scroll through in a day.
A platform like this will be boring pretty fast when you scroll through the 100 new videos uploaded that day in an single hour, and you skip many of them. It’s tough to generate enough content without enough users, and most of the content will likely just be aggregated from the other short-form sites. Of course that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it’s a more privacy-friendly way to browse that content, which is a plus.
Also, not particularly a fan of more brain-rotting short form content. It’s crazy how addictive it is and I’m wanting less, not more. But if I had to choose a “shorts” platform I’d sure like a federated, free one to be the one to succeed. But it’s got a long way to go
I spend less than an hour a day, usually. I end up scrolling past a lot of the posts because they don’t interest me and are more long form content, but I like to catch up on the memes and cats
One thing that always stuck out to me about the book is the introduction of certain editions. The author writes about himself researching the history of the country the story takes place in and describes it as real, saying he took his son to a museum with Inigo’s sword and everything.
I was Googling furiously when I read it because I was so confused. I was astounded that the place (and people) was “real”. It took a bit of research to find that the author just does this bit and hasn’t let it go since he wrote the book
I’m still so charmed that he tricked me. It made reading the book that much sillier, for me
I like Pitch Meeting because he’s excellent at pointing out plot holes, of which there are many, and isn’t quite so nitpicky as Cinema Sins
Depends on the movie. I like to watch them for movies I know I will never see and have no desire to see, and more focus on non-mainstream or foreign films. I prefer other mediums to movies so I probably watch fewer than 20 movies a year.
For example, I watched one about a Japanese movie where cockroach humanoids now inhabit Mars and they have to send humans with the ability to transform into other bugs to retrieve some data. An absolutely outrageous movie that I would otherwise never know existed and would never see willingly. So instead I watched a twenty minute summary of the movie while doing something else
Love this channel, I’ve watched his videos for a couple years now. His scientific method can leave a lot to be desired at times, but it’s still great information and I always keep them in mind.
This is one of the more iconic ones, in my mind, but he’s still going strong today
