By definition, something offensive must be something that can cause someone to take offense. Saying “haha, people get offended when I say offensive things” is rather redundant.
Whenever conservatives start whining about triggers/trigger warnings, I just start talking about July 4th and soldiers with PTSD. It really changes their tune. Despite how resistant my conservative family members/conservatives I meet can be to basically anything we ever talk about, for some reason that gets through more often than not.
Of course, they often go “well, that’s legitimate unlike the whiny things that snowflakes complain about“ or whatever, but it’s a start. They at least acknowledge people can be traumatized and don’t want to re-experience it.
