I also think and agree that cargo bikes are expensive, much more than a typical bike, but why you mentioned 15k? Is it the actual price of that bike? I’m just curious…

I didn’t write that you drove anything, what I wrote has nothing to do with who you are or what you do, just what you wrote.

• You wrote about cost, not “upfront” or buying cost. And as a matter of fact to run a car you have to consider everything
• cargo bikes like the one in the picture cost 15k$? really? And why would you need that?
  • Tern cargo bikes top at about 5k$, a third of what you mention
  • Bullit cargo bikes top at 8k$

And you know, you can buy second hand cargo bikes too? I don’t think that 15k$ can buy a new car, can they?

This is an ill argument: the cost of buying a new cargo bike may be in the same ballpark of a badly used small car, but the cost of running it is negligible. Try to sum up the following yearly costs:

• gas
• insurance
• property tax
• maintenance
• parking

You end up with something like between 1k€ and 3k€ each year. Multiply this by the years you want to keep your (badly used) car, and then compare the total price

It’s not a petition, it’s an European citizen initiative, a formal and official way to present a law to be discussed by eu commission.

I’m saying this because it’s a powerful tool, unlike the usual common petitions (like the change.org ones)

There are many studies that show that replacing all gas cars with electric cars won’t come close to reduction of carbon emissions needed on transportaion fields.

Morever they have all the problems that cars have:

• weight inefficent: 1 or 2 tons to move 1 80 kg person
• space inefficent: to move one person you need one parking spot at home, one at the job, one at the grocery store…
• dangerous: car crashes are the main cause of death among younger ages. Electric cars are heavier, so they are more dangerous.
• huge infrastructure needed: to move cars you need highways, which are many times less efficient from a area point if view that any other mide of transportation.
• expensive infrastructure to build and mantain. Riad manteunance drll the worst kind of holes in public funding. Electric cars weight more, making this issue worse
• Car oriented development is ugly and inefficent. You can’t have both a nice neighborhood and enough car parking space,
• Cars are terribly expensive to buy and mantain

Forse sure I’m forgetting quite a lot of things

Ask Spain… They have both the common gauge (and use it for HSR) and a historical larger gauge. And they have gauge changing trains!
